Services provided via mobile phones in the UAE

Many federal and local government entities in the UAE offer their services to mobile and smart phone users. These services range from simple SMS messages to free Blackberry, iPhone and Android applications.

You can, for example, pay parking fees in Dubai by sending an SMS with a certain code to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the fees will be deducted from your mobile credit. Also, if you want to receive a list of available ATMs near your location, you can simply send an SMS with another code to Etisalat and you will instantly receive a message containing a map of ATMs in your vicinity.

Free applications (Apps) for smart phone users such as Blackberry, iPhone, and Android enable users to avail of many government services. The Ministry of Health application, for example, helps you locate health centres and pharmacies nearest to you, get in touch with customer service representatives in addition to other services.
