Its environment is structured to stimulate innovation and research, investigate new methods for building and delivering smart government services and to provide a central collaboration platform.
CoDI includes a comprehensive quality assurance lab for smart government service delivery to help government entities and academia to achieve a common level of performance, security and quality over new and emerging access channels. It aims to develop and disseminate best practices for smart government service design and delivery via seminars, training and partnerships with educational institutes.
In addition, consultation services are offered to drive the transformation to smart government with strategy support, hands-on assistance and targeted guidance regarding application and service development.
Mobile application testing
The Mobile App Testing Lab
is a mobile app quality assurance service. It provides the services of testing and verifying the quality and security of government mobile apps. The lab includes a collection of tools that are capable of testing mobile apps in a number of critical areas such as compatibility, load and performance, binary analysis, static and dynamic code analysis and anti-reverse engineering.
The added value of the mobile lab is its operational effectiveness. All testing tools are fully integrated and tests are conducted with high level of automation, saving time and costs. This gives the lab specialists the opportunity to focus on analysing the reports and ensuring the relevance and quality of the information they include.
After the announcement of the mTransformation, there was an immediate need to understand the current knowledge and awareness level amongst the entities, address the readiness of government organisations and develop the right training content. CoDI provides training services
in different formats, on-site instructor-led sessions, virtual instructor-led online sessions and self-paced training.
In addition, CoDI produced eight training manuals and two books targeting government and academic organisations with an intention to share the UAE’s experience of mobile government transformation with the world. The centre welcomes trainees not only from the UAE but also from other countries in the region.
Courses follow the Secure Coding Guidelines and aim at training app developers in best practices for coding and basics of iOS and Android development.
CoDI drives innovation through collaboration and exploration of new methods to enhance and develop the uptake of mobile government services. On the government level, the centre developed virtual surgical simulations for Ministry of Health and Prevention. That was the only regional project that was demonstrated at the World Government Summit 2016.
CoDI also extended its reach to school students and successfully launched an Innovation Summer Camp in 2015 and 2016. The camp aims to discover and nurture students’ potential in ICT and smart technologies.
Consultation is a service that adds value to CoDI and supports the ongoing efforts of other government organisations to integrate their platforms and services with the national platforms. The centre offers technical consultations to them and facilitates meetings with subject matter experts. The centre also provides technical consultation to entrepreneurial projects started by Emiratis during the initial phase before funding the projects. Such consultation includes access to technology and experts at the centre.
